. History:
The Afghan Women's Resource Center (AWRC) was founded by a group of over 80 educated Afghan women from different walks of life, in August 1989.
. Vision:
We see the future of Afghan women not as passive victims but as active agents of positive changes in their community and nation.
. Mission :
AWRC contributes to Afghan women empowerment and Afghan children protection. At this end it offers quality services in the education, health, capacity building, income generation and human rights/awareness sectors for its target group and enhances women capabilities to improve their economic and social well-being. It advocates with and on behalf of Afghan women for social change to ensure that national development efforts are both equitable and sustainable. It believes that involvement of all concerned actors is crucial to success.
. Objectives:
. To empower the most vulnerable women with culturally appropriate education, skills training and employment opportunities, to enable them to become active and self-reliant members of their families and society, rather than being a liability.
. To help raise and extend the coverage of basic education for women and children.
. To provide health-care training and services in order to maintain and improve the health status of Afghan people, with particular emphasis on women and children.
. To ensure information provision for Afghan women to encourage them to take a public role in the peace process and reconstruction of Afghanistan .
AWRC is a well-known organization among donor community and enjoys good reputation and respect in its target communities. Up till now, since its initiation AWRC has run 92 projects for the welfare of Afghan refugee women and children both inside Pakistan and Afghanistan . |
