What is WASSA?
Women Activities & Social Services Association (WASSA) established in 2002 in Afghanistan , as non-government and non-profit organization, committed to seeking ways for gender-equality and women empowerment in Afghanistan . WASSA aims to promote women equal participation in socio- economic sectors of the country. WASSA works directly with communities in order to bring change in social attitude towards women.
WASSA envision "World free of all sorts of discrimination and violence, in which everyone has the right to basic needs, social justice, and dignity".
WASSA focuses on issues and realities of women's lives. WASSA recognizes that women's struggles need to be supported
WASSA strongly believes that:
Peace process and reconstruction of Afghanistan need contribution of both men and women. Sidelining and silencing women from socio-economic process will not lead to sustainable development. Gender discrimination will divide the society much more deeper and hinder the ways to conflict resolution and social justice .
What does WASSA do?
Social Services
WASSA provides education , health , income generation and agriculture programs for women and girls at both rural and urban areas
Conflict Resolution
WASSA Conflict Resolution program consist of the following programs:
- Shelter for Women at risk (victims of violence)
- Legal counseling
- Peace Building programs
- Training & workshops regarding conflict resolution
Advocacy
WASSA advocates both nationally and internationally through different programs
Networking and Coordination
WASSA puts women in direct contact with each other to facilitate the information sharing, expertise, and experience. It also advocates through the network and has different national and international activist in this network.
Strategic Aims
. Build- from the grassroots up - the capacity of Afghan civil society in finding better solution to women problems and ensure women are part of all development programs.
. Building the capacity of women through different Capacity Building and community mobilization programs.
. Provide social services like education, health, income generation and agriculture program for women.
. Strive for bringing amendment in judiciary system (to secure women rights) with other like-minded organization. |
